Happy Halloween

We didn't go Trick-or-Treating because Grayson wasn't in a great mood. He didn't have nap and I don't think he quite feels like himself yet. He still has a cough and a runny nose, poor guy. We decided to go to my Grandparents for a quick hamburger and Grayson got a Halloween Hummer truck that he is completely infatuated with. He could care less about candy, so the truck was right up his alley.
Grayson was going to be a firefighter, but he changed his mind at the last minute and told me he wanted to be "Astro Boy." So, I made him the best "Astro Boy" costume I could. Pretty lame, I know... After all that, he didn't even want to dress up. So, I am calling his costume the "Firefighter" on his day off. However, Gavyn doesn't have an opinion yet. I made him (with YaYa's help) a sushi costume. I know it sounds crazy, but I thought it was so cute when I saw it in one of my magazines.
So there you have it, The McKelvey's Halloween 2009!!!

Mummies and Ghosts, Oh My!

I decided to get Grayson in the Halloween spirit for lunch, so made Mummy Pizzas and Banana Ghosts. Grayson had fun making them, but I think he liked eating them more. Once again, I got the recipes from the Disney Family Fun website. Just click here to see 15 Hauntingly Healthy Halloween Snacks.

We Interrupt this Program...

I wanted to post more Halloween recipes this week, but unfortunately Grayson was sick all week. I have been preoccupied with taking care of him. Marc took him to the doctor on Monday and the doctor said he just had an upper respiratory infection. However, she said if he ran fever or coughed so bad he couldn't sleep to bring him back in. So, inevitably the cough worsened and we went back Thursday to find out he had the flu. He missed his School Halloween Carnival and all. However, his teacher sent me some pictures from school that were worth sharing.

Carrot Finger Fun

This was the easiest appetizer I have ever made. I got the idea from Disney's Family Fun website. It's supposed to look like a hand with grungy old finger nails. All I did was peel the carrots and cut the tip at a slant. You can make your own dip, or buy a store bought one. Then, spoon the dip into a bowl and place the carrots in to look like a hand. Finally, put a tiny amount of dip on an almond sliver and press it onto the carrot. In no time you have a spooky appetizer that would be great for a party!!!!

Cookie Magazine: Costume Cookies

Cookie Magazine is one of my favorite magazines for cool kid stuff. In the October issue, they had the recipe for costume cookies. It is such a great idea and we had a blast making the cookies. We made eyeballs, noses, teeth, mustaches and masks. We were having so much fun, Marc decided to join us . In case you don't read Cookie, click here to get the recipe and directions.

Candy Corn Kiss Cookies

These cookies are super yummy and so easy. I got this idea from Lickable Spoon, but it was missing the amount of butter needed. So I just used a recipe I had for peanut butter cookies. The cookies are supposed to be smaller, kind of like a thumb print, but Grayson wouldn't have any part of making them little. He was the scooper and he scooped very large spoonfuls. The bigger the portion, the better when it comes to sweets. (If it's hard to read the recipe, just double click on it and it go to another screen that is easier to read. You can even print it if you would like and save it in your recipe boxes.) Enjoy!!!

Halloween

We are going to bake a spooky recipe everyday this week. Hopefully we can brew up some fun recipes to share. Stay tuned to see what we make...

"CHEESE"

While I was feeding Gavyn, Grayson was playing in his room. He did join us eventually, because I wanted him to see Gavyn eating. I'm not exactly sure why he is practically naked in the kitchen, but he is. He came running in the kitchen with only his underwear on. It was only 6 o'clock, definitely not bath time yet. Oh well... After I finished feeding Gavyn, I was putting the camera away. However, Grayson said "NO MAMA, cheese" so he made me take some pictures of him as well. I guess he doesn't like being left out of the limelight.

My First Meal

I took way too many pictures of Gavyn's first "solid food" meal, but we had a lot of fun and I saw several new faces. He ate a little bit of rice cereal and did pretty well. Just a couple of weeks of cereal and then we will start introducing fruits and vegetables. Pre Feeding: The Feeding:

Like I said, I saw a lot of new faces...

Rainy Day...

It has been a rainy day all day today, but we didn't mind it. I am ready for the cold weather. I can only handle so many 80-90 degree days in October. We had fun jumping in grassy-muddy puddles with our rain boots. Grayson knows exactly what to do with his boots, it's so funny. He is such a dude... We have been busy lately and things are settling down for awhile, I think... We were in Dallas this past weekend for the Breast Cancer Walk. My Grandma Lisa, who is beating breast cancer as I write, was able to come and participate in the walk. She is doing so good and looks so healthy. I am so happy she is getting better and has some energy. We had a lot of fun with family over the weekend and the shopping is always fun. Now we are just gearing up for Halloween and Grayson's school festival next week. Gavyn had his four month check up this week and everything was great...(stay tuned for more on his checkup.) Most importantly, Transformers 2 came out on DVD this week and Grayson is so excited. We are just waiting on Marc to get home to have movie night now.

Tummy Time

Gavyn is trying so hard to roll over. He goes from side to side, but hasn't accomplished the entire roll yet. He does pretty good on his stomach and can hold his up. It won't be long before I am chasing him around the house.

sMILeS cont...

There is nothing that makes me happier than seeing Grayson and Gavyn smile. I know it sounds a little cheesy... but it makes my heart melt. They grow so fast and won't always smile about the simple things in life, so I hope I can capture many more smiles.

sMILeS

Today, give a stranger one of your smiles. It might be the only sunshine he sees all day. ~Quoted in P.S. I Love You, compiled by H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

Just a Little More Fireman Fun...

We met Cody at "Firehouse Subs" (founded by Fireman) in Fort Worth. It was hit with Grayson, possibly because it had Dalmatian covered tabletops, firetruck pictures painted on the walls, real Fireman boots hanging on the walls and to top it all off, his kid's meal came with a Fireman hat. The sandwiches were really good, we will definitely put that one on our list to go back!!!
